App-Solutely Fabulous: 5 Apps for a Stronger, Fitter Body and Brain

Healthy eating is essential to creating a vibrant, wonderful life! It’s the foundation we all have the opportunity to support and strengthen every day -- or undermine when we’re not listening to the messages our bodies are sending us. As important as good food is though, it’s not the whole picture. Exercise and movement are also essential pieces of your health puzzle as well. Whether you’re just starting your health journey or need an assist help to stay on track, here are 5 of my favorite apps for supporting health, body and mind:

1) MyFitnessPal

One of the classics and one of the greats for weight loss and nutrition support, the app features the largest food database around -- over 3,000,000 foods and counting -- plus, easy food and exercise logs, nutrition tracking and analysis features to guide you on the path to achieving your fitness and weight goals.

2) Moves

Moves is a clever fitness tracker that monitors and records any walking, cycling or running you do throughout the day. You can view the distance, duration, steps, and calories burned for each activity. The app is always on, so there’s no need to start and stop it. Just keep your phone in your pocket or your bag and get moving!

3) Fit Brains

Give your brain a workout! This app, designed by neuroscientists, monitors and supports brain health with specialized brain training programs and games. The app helps train you in crucial brain skills such as memory, concentration, problem-solving, processing speed, language, and visual-spatial recognition – all of which help keep the brain nimble!

4) BrainyApp

This app is designed to help you rate and track your brain health, by offering tips on how to live a brain-healthy lifestyle – which also happens to be good for your heart as well. The app helps train your brain’s memory and thinking skills to help reduce dementia risk.

BrainyApp includes a Brain Health Survey, and provides personalized recommendations on what you can do to improve your brain health.

The BrainyApp was developed by Alzheimer’s Australia and Bupa Health Foundation to raise awareness of the risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.

5) Dharma Meditation Trainer

Need a personal trainer for enlightening meditation? This app features 10 levels of enlightenment, plus a meditation timer, an end-of-meditation tone, plus daily practice reminders, to help keep you on the path to enlightenment and relaxation. Sessions start a 5-minutes and can be adjusted to suit your schedule.
